Carenzio farm

The Carenzio farm is located in the province of Pavia and has always practiced sustainable agriculture.

The company specializes in the artisanal production of rice.

Rice is grown naturally with organic fertilization. To improve the fertility of the land, a legume (Vetch) is used buried before sowing the rice.

The rice is not treated with sewage sludge.

In details

"Before explaining how we produce the rice you bring to the table, we reassure you on a topic that is close to our hearts and that we know is also important for you: let's say always no to sewage sludge because we care about our health and that of the environment.

But let's get to the heart of the discussion: how we grow and process rice?

In autumn we prepare the soil, favoring organic fertilization: as befits a company that practices sustainable agriculture, we replace nitrogen-based fertilizers as much as possible with the green manuring technique which involves the sowing of an interlayer crop, in our case of vetch, a legume that we bury before sowing rice in order to improve the fertility of the land.

To protect the fauna of the paddy field, on the perimeter of the field, we dig and maintain a ditch where frogs, minnows, moorhens and wild ducks can live peacefully thanks to the constant presence of water. In spring, instead of traditional plowing now obsolete, we move the soil on the surface with a dedicated machine, the combination for minimum tillage: thus we avoid the dispersion of organic substances from the soil, precious for rice and we reduce fuel consumption, reducing pollution. and costs in one fell swoop.

In mid-May with the precision seeder, we sow the Carnaroli, then the Arborio and finally the Baldo. We practice dry sowing: bury the seeds at 3/5 centimeters from the surface and crush the soil with a roller to push them deeply.

June is the month of flooding : the oxygen-rich water brought to the fields by a channel of white water, the carminated hollow, protects the newborn rice from temperature changes.

From June to September we keep the situation in the rice fields monitored: maximum attention to the seedlings that we help with fertilizer when needed, and careful eye on the water level that can drop when, for example, the otters dig their holes.

September and October are the months of the harvest: we cut the ripe rice and dry it quickly to ensure the best conservation. In the meantime, let's shred what remains of the seedlings in order to obtain a natural fertilizer. We then move on to processing: we are one of the very few farms in the province of Pavia to take care of it, thanks to an automated system, the pileria, which cleans, debrides and abrades the rice, depriving it of its films; the optical sorter checks every single grain and rejects the imperfect ones, finally the bagging machine.

At this point our rice just needs to be cooked but we leave this pleasure to you ".
